The Fig Tree Revenge
When Barrie and Isobel
moved to Cyprus there were many things to learn. The trouble is,
Cypriots are not very good teachers and Barrie and Friend were told
nothing about the dangers that Fig Trees hide beneath the bark.
Read on about this hilarious episode which ultimately was indeed a good
lesson ! |

Family and Friends Birthday Page
Following wide ranging
searches I have managed to discover the details about the location and
birthdates of many friends and family. Naturally it is not complete and
many individuals are missing. If you can furnish me with any details or
errors about the people displayed or want to add any others to the
page, please send me detail via the contact page and I will update the
page, Because it is all fairly confidential information I have included
a user name and password to enter the page - fairly simple but an
obstacle nevertheless.
This page is password protected;
there is a clue but if you are stuck go to the contact page
and ask me !!! |

Doug Davies RAF VR
Barrie, Lyn and Sonia's
father Doug joined the Royal Airforce Volunteer Reserve age just 19. He
trained as a gunner and was detailed to 100 squadron. After training,
his first operational flight was to drop sea mines off the U-Boat pens, St
Nazaire in Francebut. Unfortunately and partly due to engine
failure, fuel ran out fast and by the time they got back to
fog bound Lincolnshire things were critical. The plane
crashed with Doug the only survivor. This feature highlights the
details, Barrie's visit to the crash site and the RAF official report. |

The Deaf / Blind Pages.
This page is very
relevant to many of us older people but there is an enormous differenc
as far as the observer is concerned - particularly the younger
generation. In simple terms, you can see a blind person but you cannot
see a deaf individual. This page gives you something to think about -
or should I say, listen to !!! |

Doug Davies RN VR
Yes
indeed!! There was another Doug Davies but this was the son of
Will Davies, my mother's (Tydfil)
brother. Unfortunately he was not as lucky as my father , who was
the sole survivor of the Lancaster crash. This Doug died when his ship
was sunk by a U-Boat on one of the Arctic convoys during the second
World War. |

Colonoscopy
Without doubt, the mere mention of this non invasive medical procedure
puts fear and trepidation in the minds of most people. But fear not,
with advances in medical procedures and diagnosis, cancer of the bowel
is becoming much easier to diagnose and treat. Colonoscopy is non
invasive, painless and you can even ask to watch what goes on inside
you on a monitor screen. This article is funny, not quite factual and is a great way of putting your minds at rest!!! |

The Flying Doctor Service
The Kidderminster and
Distict Primary Medical Care Servic - otherwise know as the Flying
Doctor Service - was founded by five general practitioners who were
also dedicated primary care doctors in 1980. The service went from
strength to strength before it was superceeded by paramedics (Trained by the
flying doctors) and the
west midlands helicopter ambulance service in 2002. This is the story
of its formation and the 22 years it provided a new and vital pre
hospital medical care service. |

The Big Greek Gravy Train
Have you ever wondered
why a significant majority of the British public voted to leave the
European Union ? A union composed of unelected bureaucrats who have
refused to have their accounts audited for over 10 years. Read this
article and it may give you some idea of what actually does go on - not
just in Greece - and why we are better off managing our own affairs !!
(Article is a bit old now but an interesting read
nevertheless!!) |

Travel and Holiday Health
This page is dedicated
to holiday health and travel Insurance. Did you know that to rent a
dedicated air ambulance to bring back a sick person from - let's say -
New York costs between £9,000 and £15,000 per flying hour - so, 8 hours each way will
knock you back some £100,000. Of course tavelling back on a scheduled
flight is cheaper but, again, a stretcher on a plane will use up some
11 seats inclding one for the accompanying doctor or nurse and the equipment
needed !!! |

Isobel's Mosaic Page
Isobel started her Mosaic hobby
soon after we settled in Cyprus and a lot of incredibly hard
work went into these fine pieces of art. An ideal hobby out in Cyprus
but now that we have moved back to the Uk there is not so much room for
mosaics !! Whatever, Isobel still practices the art but on a much lower scale -
if you need a mosaic designed house number just let her know!! |

Aspirin
Aspirin ( scientific name
acetyl salycylic acid) has been around
for many years after being discovered in the mid 1800s - and it seems that as days go by,
yet another use for it is
found. This article is just about some facts about the drug and what to do to reduce the
toublesome side effexts |

Family Ancestry
I must confess
that I learned very little about my family history when I lived at
home and was then able to contact grandparents etc. I regret it very
much so when the ancestry programs came live online I decided to give
it a go!! With our name - DAVIES - and Isobel's family name - EVANS -
I though that it would be a mammoth task. Not so! It was an exciting
and informative exercise and in one branch of the Davies family I got
as far back as 1490 when Henry VIII was just a twinkle in his mother's
eye!!! |
